Dr. Aishah Abu Bakar is a higher education educator, academic developer, and researcher with extensive experience in teaching and learning, curriculum development, quality assurance, assessment, and academic leadership. She earned her PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Manchester in 1999 and began her academic career at the University of Malaya, where she served in the Department of Civil Engineering for more than two decades. Her commitment to teaching excellence was recognised with the National Teaching Award for the Engineering Cluster at the inaugural National Academic Award 2006, presented by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, followed by the University of Malaya Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007.Throughout her career, Dr. Aishah has contributed extensively to curriculum development and quality assurance at institutional, national, and international levels. She served as an expert panel member and contributor to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency’s Guidelines, Code of Practices and Frameworks. Guidelines on Good Practices: Curriculum Design and Delivery (CDD), Standards for Undergraduate Programme, Malaysia Qualification Framework 2.0 were some of many other documents which she had direct contribution. Her scholarship in higher education focuses particularly on e-assessment, instructional and curriculum design, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The E-Assessment in Tertiary Learning (EASTeL), The Two-Steps Approach In Preserving An Online Examination Integrity have been copyrighted and received numerous national and international recognitions. She subsequently contributed her expertise in this area through training, workshops, consultations to faculty through Action Research Projects leading to publications and awards received by participated institutions. At the University of Malaya, Dr. Aishah served as Head of the Teaching and Learning Unit at the Academic Development Centre (ADeC), where she pioneered learning-space initiatives and established four cohorts of University of Malaya Action Research (UMAR) groups. She subsequently expanded her contribution nationally as a module developer and master trainer for SoTL and Instructional Design Strategy (IDS) programmes under the Malaysian Academy of Leadership in Higher Education. As Director of ADeC, she also established the University of Malaya Learning Innovation and Teaching Enhancement Research Grant (UMLiTeR). Dr. Aishah was twice seconded to the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, where she served as the Director of the Academic Development Management Division, Department of Higher Education. In this capacity, she contributed to national higher education policies and initiatives aligned with the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint 2015–2025, particularly in the areas of holistic graduate development, TVET, and globalised online learning. Her contributions included the development of national guidelines and initiatives such as 2u2i, Mata Pelajaran Umum 2.0, Garis Panduan Pembangunan Program Akademik 2.0, Framing Higher Education 4.0, Flexible Education, Higher Education Curriculum 4.0, Liberal Education 2.0, TVET Teacher Standards, Malaysian English Assessment, ASEAN Student Mobility, and Transnational Education. In 2020, Dr. Aishah joined Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) as Director of the Centre for Instructional Resources and e-Learning (CIReL). She contributed to the university’s e-learning ecosystem, blended learning initiatives, micro-credentials, and teaching and learning development. Her research and professional interests during this period included digital assessment, authentic online assessment, and SoTL, alongside extensive involvement in staff development at institutional, national, and international levels. Her recent contributions include work on the General Academic Programme Standards (MQA), Malaysian Digital Framework for Educators (MOHE), Transformative Curriculum Design and Management, SoTL, Authentic Online Examination initiatives, and STEM Learning Unit Integration under the SEAMEO-RECSAM SEA-TEP programme.Since 2025, Dr. Aishah has been with the **University of Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman**, serving as a Faculty Development Officer at the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). She currently leads and supports university-wide faculty development initiatives, including the **Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning (CHETL), Faculty Associates Training of Trainers (FAToT), and Researching Teaching/SoTL initiatives**. She also contributes to teaching and academic development in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering and Architecture. Dr. Aishah’s professional passion lies in developing educators, strengthening teaching quality, advancing meaningful assessment, and building a culture of evidence-informed teaching and educational scholarship.
