Information and Marketing The Community Service and Voluntary Work Group organized a lecture on the topic of Technology Risks on Monday morning in Al Shahba Hall. The lecture was presented by the Assistant Director of Criminal Investigations and Investigations, represented by Major Jaffer bin Muhammad Al Ma’wali. The lecture was attended by a number of students, as it offered significant benefit for students on how to deal with the risks engaged in working and interaction with the new technologies, their age group and demographic being the most prominent users. The lecture also contained a number of diverse aspects, the most prominent of which was the definition of e-crime and featured the most prominent forms of risk, such as offensive materials of a cultural, sexual, economic and political nature. Further, Major Al Mawali talked about the more prominent targets in electronic crimes being from different groups within society, and also spoke of what motivates the perpetrators of electronic crime and their goals. He even gave examples of the reality of cyber-crime, in Omani society of e-based blackmail, explaining that if they can understand the motivations and methods of the criminal, they will be better placed to prevent the occurrence of such crimes. In conclusion, the Major presented the several ways to protect oneself from falling into the clutches of cyber-criminals, and explained how the competent authorities deal with electronic crime, under the provisions of Omani Cyber-Crime Law (2011). |
