Ms. Cherry Ann C. Ballad, a Clinical Instructor of the School of Nursing-College of Pharmacy and Nursing, and Ms. Asma Marhoun al Mayahi, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Internship student, won 2nd Place in Oral Presentation at the recently concluded Second International Nursing Conference under the theme ‘Transforming Nursing Future: Technology, Innovation and Collaboration’ held at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman from February 4 to 6, 2018.

Dr. Erna Judith Roach, Chair of the Conference Scientific Committee, announced during the first day of the conference that a total of 105 conference abstracts were received from 15 countries. Out of these, 44 papers were selected for oral presentation under the subthemes of Innovation, Collaboration, Technology, Clinical research and Education research. The conference was held under the patronage of Dr. Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Executive President, Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB).

Dr. Omar Al Rawajfah, the Dean of the College of Nursing, Sultan Qaboos University, said in his opening remarks that the conference aims to provide a scientific platform for knowledge exchange and open the horizon of collaboration among nurses, educators, and researchers at all levels. Delegates from, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and United States of America graced the three-day international event.

Ms. Asma’s graduation project entitled ‘Work-related Stress and Psychosomatic Complaints among Omani Nurses’ under the supervision of Ms. Ballad was presented in the said conference.  The fundamental role of the nursing workforce in the healthcare profession could not be overemphasized. However, the study yield to undeniably unsettling and alarming results.

The presentation captured the attention of the attendees, who were all nurse professionals from different sectors in the international scene. It is hoped that through this research dissemination activity, proper attention will be given by the appropriate authorities in planning future concrete actions to promote and preserve the welfare of nurse professionals.
