1st Foundation Institute English Language Teaching Symposium

 

 

 

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail, Pro Vice Chancellor for Academic Services, and the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Al Rahbi, the Director of the Foundation Institute, the Foundation Institute held its 1st English Language Teaching Symposium in collaboration with Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

Two plenary speakers took part in the Symposium. The first was Dr. Peter Watkins, principal lecturer in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Portsmouth. He gave a lecture on reading in the 21st century followed by a workshop. The second plenary speaker was Mr. Peter Lucantoni, Professional Learning and Development Manager (MENA) from Cambridge University Press & Assessment. He gave a talk on communication writing in the differentiated classroom which was also followed by a workshop.

Eight established Foundation Institute English language instructors also gave workshops and presentations on English language teaching centered on themes related to teaching in mixed abilities classrooms, how to enhance students’ motivation, active listening in the classroom and reading motivation via ReadTheory.

The sessions were conducted concurrently in Al Mashariq at the University of Nizwa on Monday 13th June 2022 from 09:00-15:30. At the end of the event, Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail and Dr. Ahmed Al Rahbi congratulated the presenters on the stimulating sessions, and presented them with certificates. The Cambridge University Press & Assessment delegation were also thanked for their contributions towards the success of the Symposium and presented with certificates of appreciation and memorabilia.
