Dean`s Message

Should you think of rich, energetic and promising destination for improving your abilities, knowledge and skill, you may consider the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Nizwa for your tertiary studies. At CAS students are trained to think deep, analyze, and judge.

With over 2000 traditional undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in its programs, the college is the largest at the University. The primary focus of arts programs within the college is guided application of reason towards exploration of the "ideal", whereas, science programs are geared towards "practical" application.

Since its establishment, the college has been striving to become a national academic center of excellence in its areas of specializations.  Currently, it consists of five departments:

  • Arabic Language
  • Biological Sciences and Chemistry
  • Education and Cultural Studies
  • Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Foreign Languages

These departments are placed in the same college to emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary interaction and to moderate the gap between practical application and exploration of the ideal. Such strategy reveals the desire of the college to follow the modern trend of offering broad-based academic programs that encourage students to become well-rounded learners.

The College also encourages its distinguished faculty to be productive and active contributors in their respective fields. In addition to their duties as educators, faculty are engaged in a variety of quality research and are expected to generate considerable fund in research and equipment grants.

As the pivotal pillar of the university, the college is committed to advancing and applying knowledge through:

v  training and exchange programs with prestigious universities worldwide;

v  focusing on programs that address the needs of its rapidly progressing communities;

v  excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels;

v  state-of- the-art laboratories and classrooms that are among the best in the Gulf region;

v  library with comprehensive print as well as advanced electronic resources;

v  five specialized centers to enhance teaching and learning;

 

v  resources that help promotion and dissemination of quality research;

v  equipment and research grants.

In a nutshell, the college stresses its commitment to the highest levels of excellence in teaching, research and its unyielding mission to produce quality graduates who will impact the progress of the Sultanate in positive and profound ways.
